Online GP Consultations — Phone & Video Telehealth Across Australia

1GP offers online GP consultations by phone and video for patients across all of Australia. Whether you are in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Canberra, Darwin, or anywhere else in the country, you can speak with an AHPRA-registered General Practitioner from home with no waiting rooms, no travel, and no unnecessary delay.

Our telehealth consultations are conducted by experienced, AHPRA-registered Australian GPs who assess your symptoms, provide evidence-based medical advice, and issue prescriptions, medical certificates, or referrals where clinically appropriate. All care is delivered in accordance with the standards set by the Medical Board of Australia.

What Can Be Managed via Telehealth

What Conditions Can an Online GP Help With?

A telehealth consultation with 1GP is suitable for a wide range of everyday health concerns. Your GP will conduct a thorough clinical assessment before providing any advice or treatment.

Common reasons Australians book a telehealth GP appointment include:

  • Everyday Illnesses & Infections Colds, flu, sore throats, ear pain, sinus infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin rashes, conjunctivitis, and other minor infections that don’t require an in-person examination.

  • Prescriptions & Repeat Scripts New prescriptions and repeat prescriptions (e-scripts) for eligible medications, where clinically appropriate. Your e-script is sent directly to your phone via SMS or email and can be filled at any pharmacy across Australia.

  • Medical Certificates Medical certificates for work, school, university, or carer’s leave, issued after a GP assessment. If your condition warrants a certificate, your GP can send it to you digitally during or immediately after your consultation.

  • Specialist & Diagnostic Referrals Referrals to specialists, as well as requests for pathology (blood tests) and radiology (X-ray, ultrasound, MRI) where clinically indicated. See our [Specialist Referrals] and [Radiology & Pathology Referral] pages for more detail.

  • Ongoing Management of Stable Conditions Monitoring and support for stable, established conditions including hypertension (high blood pressure), type 2 diabetes, asthma, high cholesterol, anxiety, and other chronic health conditions where an in-person examination is not required at that point in time. See our [Chronic Disease Management] page for more information.

  • Mental Health Support Discussion of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, and sleep difficulties. Your GP can provide advice, review existing medications, and guide you on appropriate next steps, including referrals to psychology or psychiatry services where indicated.

  • General Health Advice Questions about your health, medication interactions, vaccination schedules, travel health, preventative care, and general wellbeing.

How to See a GP Online with 1GP

That’s it. Most consultations are completed in 10–15 minutes from the comfort of your home.

What to Expect from Your Consultation

What Happens During Your Online GP Consultation?

All consultations are conducted confidentially. Your personal and health information is handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles and the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988.

What if my condition needs in-person care? Your GP will always advise you honestly. If your symptoms require a physical examination, urgent in-person assessment, or attendance at an emergency department, your doctor will clearly explain this and guide you on what to do next.

Who Is Telehealth Right For?

Is a Telehealth Consultation Right for You?

Telehealth works well for many Australians, particularly:

  • Patients who are unwell and prefer not to travel to a clinic
  • People across all of Australia, including those in outer suburbs, regional towns, and rural communities where local GP access is limited or wait times are long
  • Busy parents, workers, and carers who need a convenient time slot
  • Patients managing ongoing conditions who need a regular review without the hassle of an in-person appointment
  • People who are immunocompromised and prefer to minimise exposure to others
  • Travellers or remote workers who need GP access away from home
  • Patients requiring after-hours advice when their regular clinic is closed

A telehealth consultation is not suitable for conditions requiring a physical examination, procedures, wound care, or emergency assessment. Your GP will advise you if this applies to your situation.
