1GP provides online radiology and pathology referrals issued by AHPRA-registered GPs via phone and video telehealth consultations, available to patients across Australia. If you need a blood test, imaging scan, or other diagnostic investigation, our registered GPs can assess your situation and issue the appropriate referral digitally, without you needing to visit a clinic first.
All referrals issued through 1GP are prepared following a genuine clinical assessment by a fully registered Australian GP, in accordance with Australian clinical guidelines and the standards of the Medical Board of Australia. Referrals are only issued where clinically appropriate and where the investigation is genuinely indicated based on your GP’s assessment.
A telehealth consultation with 1GP can result in referrals for a wide range of diagnostic investigations where a clinical assessment supports it. Your GP will review your symptoms, medical history, and current health concerns before determining the most appropriate tests to request.
Common referrals requested through 1GP include:
Select a convenient appointment time through our online booking system. Appointments are available across a range of time slots to suit your schedule.
At your scheduled time, your AHPRA-registered GP will connect with you by phone or video. They will take a thorough clinical history, review your symptoms and medical background, and assess which investigations are clinically appropriate for your situation.
If your GP determines that a radiology or pathology referral is appropriate, it will be prepared and sent directly to your phone or email. Take your referral to your preferred pathology collection centre or radiology provider to have your tests completed.
No waiting room, no travel, no unnecessary delay.
When you join your 1GP telehealth appointment to request a radiology or pathology referral, your AHPRA-registered GP will:
Where do I go to have my tests done? Once you have your referral, you can take it to any pathology collection centre or radiology provider across Australia. Major national providers such as Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, 4cyte Pathology, Australian Clinical Labs, and I-MED Radiology accept referrals from AHPRA-registered GPs. Many providers allow you to book online or walk in without an appointment.
How will I get my results? Your results will typically be sent directly to your 1GP doctor, who can then review them with you at a follow-up telehealth consultation. In some cases, results may also be sent to you directly by the pathology or radiology provider.
All consultations are conducted confidentially. Your personal and health information is handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles and the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988.
In most cases, yes. For Medicare-rebated pathology and radiology services in Australia, a referral from a registered medical practitioner is required. Without a valid referral, you will generally need to pay the full cost of the test without a Medicare rebate.
A GP referral also serves an important clinical purpose. Your GP assesses your symptoms and selects the most appropriate tests for your situation, avoiding unnecessary testing and ensuring that results are interpreted within the right clinical context. This leads to more accurate diagnosis and more appropriate follow-up care.
Getting your referral through a 1GP telehealth consultation means you can have your GP assessment and your referral sorted quickly, from home, without needing to wait for an in-person clinic appointment first.
